Umag, the pitaresque fishing town with 8.000 inhabitants is situated in the north-west corner of the Istrian peninsula. It ancient part was once an island and retains medieval aspect of picturesque squares and period houses built in Gothis and early Renassance Venetian style. There is the baroque parish church from 16 C and the detached bell tower with a clock in the center of the town. Umag today ranks among the leading tourists and sports centers in Croatia and has the long term experience in organising tennis tournament which has culminated in the CROATIA OPEN ATP Tournament. |
